![]() It definitely opens up the world of Tamriel, but I can’t help but feel as though it takes away some of its character and depth as well. ![]() However, Zenimax Online have also indicated that One Tamriel is designed to make The Elder Scrolls Online feel more like single-player Elder Scrolls games by balancing the game world, and I feel as though it doesn’t achieve this goal quite so successfully. It feels as if this is perhaps the true purpose of One Tamriel, as one last roll of the dice to try and get new players onboard, and from that perspective it works. Gone are the days where you could choose to leave a quest until you’re a higher level, and come back and wipe the floor with enemies that previously gave you trouble, and in that way, One Tamriel feels a little like it actually reduces the freedom of choice available to players.įor players looking to group up with friends or other gamers, One Tamriel is a great addition to ESO especially for players who have just picked up the game and want to play with friends who have been playing since the beginning, or vice versa. One group of mages or berserkers soon begin to resemble the one you battled just before, and the fact that almost every enemy has a proportional amount of health to your character can make some quests feel like a bit of a slog. Enemies soon become fairly anonymous, and aside from their differing avatars, it starts to feel as if you’re battling against a series of identikit foes, with similar abilities and similar groupings of enemy types. On the other hand, though, One Tamriel partially removes the sense of progression from the world, as you have no real yardstick to measure your character against. On the plus side, every region of Tamriel available in-game is now accessible to every player, and the world-leveling means that you can venture to pretty much every corner of the world without fear of being hideously underleveled, which opens up the huge world of Tamriel to a previously unprecedented level of player freedom. While this doesn’t initially seem like a huge difference when you first boot up the game, it in fact amounts to a pretty sizeable double-edged sword, depending on what you expect from The Elder Scrolls Online. One Tamriel is perhaps the biggest change to ESO’s base mechanics, bringing with it the removal of character alliances and alliance-specific regions, and leveling the in-game world to your character. While it perhaps doesn’t really hold a torch to its more hallowed brethren, The Elder Scrolls Online, particularly with the new addition of the One Tamriel modification, is a solid MMORPG experience, and it’s likely time that many of the game’s critics give it a second chance. Having played ESO for the last month or so, I’ve come to the conclusion that this reputation is a little unfair. It’s a title that many fans of Bethesda and Zenimax have dabbled in, but it’s rarely brought up in polite gaming conversation, and has been largely left in the wilderness compared to games such as Skyrim and Oblivion. Since release, The Elder Scrolls Online ( ESO) has been seen somewhat as the ugly stepsister of the Elder Scrolls series.
